Tour Guide Training Workshop (Part 1)

If you’ve been looking for a meaningful way to become involved with Laurel Hill Cemetery, volunteering your time and passion as a tour guide is one of the best ways to do so! Our knowledgeable guides – professors, scholars, authors and individuals passionate about sharing their insight on cemeteries, history, art and more – lead over 150 public and private tours each year. Attending our spring training is the first step to becoming a part of the Cemetery’s exclusive community of tour guides.

Requirements

Interested candidates must attend both workshops:

Tour Guide Training (Part I): Saturday March 2, 10am-2pm

The first session will cover training requirements and provide a general introduction to the Cemetery. The afternoon will conclude with a light lunch and walking tour with current cemetery Guides.

Tour Guide Training Workshop (Part II): Saturday, March 23, 10am-11:30am

The second session will provide an in-depth overview of the Cemetery’s history, notables and “hot spots.” Study materials will be distributed.

Qualifications Sought

  • A passion for history and storytelling
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Enthusiasm, good judgment, and flexibility
  • Ability to conduct and implement research
  • Interest in working with a diverse group of visitors of all ages
  • Ability to work outdoors and stand/walk for up to two hours at a time

  • The training session will take place at Laurel Hill Cemetery’s Gatehouse entrance at 3822 Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19132. Free parking is located in the lot across the street from the Gatehouse.
