Surnames such as
Elkins, Widener and Baldwin are certainly familiar to many Philadelphians, even
today. But what many don’t know are the stories of how these elite
families made it to the top—in life and in death. From memorials designed by
world renowned architects, to a 625 square foot mausoleum, tour guide Nancy Wright will introduce us to Laurel
Hill’s privileged few and prove that you can, in fact, take it with you. Drinks and refreshments will be served at
the start of the tour. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and be prepared to
enjoy stunning river views.
The walking tour will take place on Thursday, August 17 at 6:00pm, departing from Laurel Hill Cemetery’s Gatehouse entrance at 3822 Ridge Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19132. Free parking is located in the lot across the street from the Gatehouse.
The cost is free to members. Advanced registration is required.
