Manager of Programs & Civic Engagement, The Friends of Laurel Hill Cemetery

The Friends of Laurel Hill Cemetery has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Manager of Programs & Civic Engagement. The Friends group, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is dedicated to “preserving, protecting, and promoting the visual and historic character of Laurel Hill Cemetery”, the first National Historic Landmark cemetery in the country. Working with both Laurel Hill & West Laurel Hill Cemetery Companies, the Friends produces educational, recreational and entertainment programming at both sites and raises money for preservation, operations, and special project support. The Friends of Laurel Hill Cemetery is currently in the process of expanding to become the Friends of Laurel Hill & West Laurel Hill Cemeteries.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager of Programs & Civic Engagement will be responsible for the planning, cultivation, execution, evaluation and oversight of a variety of community and institutional partnerships, public programs, private tours, and events at Laurel Hill & West Laurel Hill Cemeteries with the goal of reaching new audiences, acquiring new members, and increasing visibility. Working with both Laurel Hill & West Laurel Hill Cemeteries, this position helps to plan and coordinate communications for the Friends including our website, annual calendar, social media, and traditional media outlets.

The successful candidate should be a strategic thinker who can communicate effectively and build strong, trusting relationships with diverse stakeholders. The candidate should have the vision and drive to take existing strong public programs to the next level and help build new programs and educational initiatives. This position will work with staff at both cemeteries to ensure excellence in arts and cultural programming with a focus on the history, residents, and purpose of Laurel Hill & West Laurel Hill Cemeteries.

The successful candidate will possess excellent organizational skills, strong verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills, and passion for and commitment to the work of the organization. The candidate should be self-directed with entrepreneurial spirit and an ability to work collaboratively with others. A Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of experience in the cultural, educational or historic sector are required. Must have a valid driver’s license and excellent computer skills (including Excel, Word, Adobe Creative Suite, and major social media platforms). Evening and weekend hours are required.
