Marketing & Events Assistant

(Part-Time 20 hours/week)

The Friends of Laurel Hill Cemetery has an immediate opportunity for a Marketing and Events Assistant. The Friends group, a 501(c)(3) organization, is dedicated to preserving and promoting Laurel Hill Cemetery, a national historic landmark. Laurel Hill, a premier Philadelphia historic destination, is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to provide marketing and event support for the Cemetery’s general public programming and two annual fundraisers; the Gravediggers’ Ball and Rest in Peace 5K Run.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: assisting with program execution from set-up to break down; special event promotion and assistance; content development for newsletters, social media and ad campaigns; and data entry. The Marketing and Events Assistant will also help to create and distribute press releases; maintain contact lists and assist the Friends in reaching new and target audiences.

The ideal candidate should possess strong computer skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to multitask and work independently. A love of history and an unconventional sense of humor is preferred. Preferred skills include: A strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Altru (or other Blackbaud products) and social media platforms. Graphic design skills are a plus, as is an open mind and a sense of morbid curiosity.

Some physical labor is required. Late evenings and weekends are required as needed, and flexibility in scheduling is a must. The position is part-time with a general commitment of 20 hours per week with opportunities for overtime for events, especially in the busy fall events season.

A Bachelor’s degree and/or two years related experience in the cultural, educational or historic non-profit sector preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle. A writing sample is requested along with a resume and cover letter to be considered.
